How many times can a mom take a peek down the back of a diaper for poopies, only to find her finger tip completely immersed in crap?

Hee hee! Yes they are, but he's lucky you like him. ;)
I guess I should explain that this kid is a tooter. Smelling a diaper, doesn't always give you an answer. There have been many changes that smelt bad, but were surprisingly clean. I call this the "Fake Out". Then there are those that didn't smell and were full and gross. I call these "Chocolate Surprise."
So there are times when I just barely pull back his diaper for a peek only to find that the poopies are trying to escape and have almost found freedom at the top. Oh and there have been a few nasty instances where they have made a clean escape,(haha) one where they managed to make it all the way to the carpet behind him which he was sitting on. If he poos while sitting it goes straight up the back. Hence this gross finger discovery.

That's funny! Have you tried pulling the diaper away from his leg and looking? That's what I do, no poop finger yet!! Jacob is a tooter too, you can never tell if he's just loaded the diaper or not.
Gee thanks I wouldn't have thought of that. Ha! Of course I have but he wears pants a lot of times thus eliminating this option. ;)
Ok, smartypants! I forgot we're in different weather and LO here doesn't wear pants all the time. Ha Ha!
Ohhhh this bring backs memories of my first baby, She was a few weeks old ... I ' thought ' she had done number 2's and for the first and last time stuck my finger down the side of her nappy (diaper) ohhhh I never ever did check it that way again. Lol but many of times Ive been caught out the same as you ... I gave up counting after my 2nd child ... 4 kids later ... I gave up lol.
